Flex College Prep, based in Southern California, is partnering with ICDE to provide prep SAT testing (SAT test Prep) for qualified students. College and university admission standards are becoming more and more challenging, and at the same time, many of today’s students cannot afford prep testing, let alone university tuition.
 .
Most students need somewhere between 60 to 80 hours of test prep to see an average increase of 200 to 250 points on the test (half the time for “Verbal” and the other for “Math”). A first time tester should prepare for an estimated 32 to 40 hours before taking the test for the first time, including taking sample tests before taking the real SAT test.
.
As Danny Byun, CEO of Flex College Prep academy, has so eloquently stated, there are three tips for SAT prep: one, start early; two, practice makes perfect; and three, practice the right way. The SAT does not test retention; rather, according to Mr. Byun, “It assesses one’s ability to think and reason critically. This ability grows over years, not months. Students don’t need to know, say, the formula for finding the circumference of a circle. In fact, these basic formulas are provided for students! Rather, students need extensive practice working through different kinds of mathematical problems in order to learn when and how to use this formula.” So starting early is key.
.
All written material, including the SAT, has a reading vocabulary level, and students must familiarize themselves with this level through extensive exposure. As Mr. Byun states, “The best thing that a high school freshman can do to prepare is to develop a daily habit of engaging with advanced material. Just one short article from the New York Times daily or one weekly article from the New Yorker will work wonders over the next two to three years.” To prepare, students should make the time to read more from these types of resources.
.
“Students are not expected to know all the words within a passage or question, but they are expected to use what they know to reason their way to a correct answer,” said Mr. Byun. The same can be said for mathematical equations. It’s not what you know; it’s how and when to use it. This type of test takes time to comprehend, so practicing the right way is essential.
.
Many academy fees are astronomical, and that is why it is so important that ICDE find community partners like Flex College Prep. With their kind generosity, our students have the opportunity to take advantage of SAT testing preparation. ICDE is proud to have Flex College Prep as a partner. They are truly an agent of change in providing life-altering experiences.
